Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls,
Come join us for Ride Day and Rock our World!
We’re meeting Friday morning at 8 AM Sharp
It will be so delicious, like french fries and beer battered Carp.
But even more delicious is the BBQ we will have in the parking lot,
Where we’ll be serving up wieners just like they ought to be, grilled and hot.
So please come join us as we celebrate this common love that we all share,
A love for shredding, hot dogs, 7 minutes in Heaven and Truth or Dare.
See you there!

Mar 6, 2009 We have a confession to make; we love McDonald’s Shamrock Shake. For those of you who don’t know, the Shamrock Shake only comes out once a year for a limited time. As you can guess it’s out right now and only available until St. Patrick’s day.

This is our story of how we uncovered the re-emergence of the Shamrock Shake.
We were driving back to Vermont from a tradeshow in lovely Edison, NJ, home of Mr. Edison if you can’t connect the dots….. you know, inventor of the incandescent light bulb (although it is thought that his assistant was the one who came up with the idea) and the phonograph? Phonograph? Yes, the phonograph, evolved into what is known as a record player for all of you who have never seen or heard one, large disc, put on platter, engage needle, music comes out of speakers….. this is all pre Ipod, so if you aren’t up-to-speed we’ll try to fill you in where possible. Where were we? Oh yeah, driving back from NJ with an insatiable desire for breakfast food, albeit it was 7:30 at night. We pulled off I-91 in West Springfield, MA in search of a Denny’s or something comparable. Side note, Springfield, MA is the home of the Basketball Hall of Fame the location of the sports origins by Dr. James Naismith (a Canadian, living in the States just in case one of those pesky Canucks try to claim they invented the game), wow this is really turning into quite the history lesson is it not?
So, we drove up-and-down lovely I-15 in West Springfield to no avail, just about every fast food eatery had set up shop but to our dismay, no breakfast joint was in sight. We hopped back on to I-91 and continue our journey north. Northampton loomed on the horizon and we knew King Street had multiple fast food eateries, surely breakfast would be available to satiate our pangs for bacon, eggs, toast and waffles? Yeah, yeah, no! Undaunted we continued north on 91 and had our sights set on Greenfield, MA, 15 miles north.
We were feeling this one, we could practically smell the bacon, as we pulled off the highway there it was, a sign for Bickfords - game on! We followed the signs as the lead us around the rotary, knowing each passing moment brought us a little closer to our heaven on earth. There she was, perched up on the hill, ever so inviting, but looking oh-so-dark, seriously? Closed? Out of Business, holy hell, so close and yet so far, we cranked a U-turn and headed back to the highway muttering under our breath, when up ahead they loomed, the golden arches. Now, you have to realize it has been years since we’ve broken down and gone to McD’s, years. But it was too late, we were tired, hungry and fresh-out of will power, the arches drew us in like flies to candy and before we knew it we were staring at a board of numbered meal choices.
I stepped up and ordered the #2 (used to be a #3 a long time ago), qp with cheese, fries and a coke, when I spotted it.

The sign for the mythical Shamrock Shake, rubbing my eyes in disbelief as joy coursed through my veins, I nervously asked if I could substitute a Shamrock Shake for the coke. No problem came the reply.

OMG! Happy days were here again as I watched the shake pouring from the machine. I grabbed my food headed to the table, threw some fries into my qp (a must try if you haven’t already done so, saves a step and ups the taste and texture to the next level) and dove in. I annihilated the qp between heavy sips of Shamrock pleasure, the best part of the meal was that I barely made a dent in the shake and had a bonus for the final two-hour segment back to Vermont.
Let me sum it up this way, if you haven’t had a Shamrock Shake, do yourself a favor, go to your nearest Micky D’s and get one - yeah, they’re that good!

Last but not least for a bit of fun, if anyone can find us and send in this Uncle O’ Grimacey ring,

or this Uncle O’ Grimacey ring
we’ll give you a free six pack of socks!
Send it in to:

We’ve all ripped our favorite line at our local resort while imagining ourselves in Alaska or the Big Mountains of Europe - while most of us are stuck at our desks 9-5 Monday to Friday A newish contest on the scene is the Freeride World Tour which brings together top International Freeride Snowboarders and Skiers competing around the world in such exotic locations as Sochi - Russia, Squaw Valley - California USA, Tignes - France and Verbier - Switzerland.Kill five minutes at work and check out the footy from the Squaw event: Here
We’re pretty amped that two of our riders Matt Annetts from Jackson Hole is in fourth and Julien Franco is fifth.
If the boss man walks by tell ‘em your doing marketing research on Gen-Y ‘extreme athletes’ a new and exciting potential market for whatever your company makes - massive opportunity with unlimited upside, a real chance to grow the business in this economic downturn.
Get amped on the vid, go to your local shred hill and get extreme!

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is one of the coolest brands of them all? What’s that? eesa? Well, if you say so, I mean, we can’t argue with professional trained economists and statitistics, both of which were undoubtedly used in the SNOWBOARDER Preview Workbook for 2009. Take a look, it’s in the book, reading rainbow….
“In the first week of November 2008, SNOWBOARDER sent a survey out to 2,300 shop employees who are registered members of SIA. These individuals represent both exclusive snowboard retailers as well as those that carry skis and snowboards. The goal of this survey was to gauge which brands are consistently selling. SNOWBOARDER used the same voting system as our acclaimed Rider of the Year voting, in which we awarded 5 points for 1st, 4 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 2 for 4th, and 1 for 5th. The following information is a reflection of the retail landscape based upon the materials provided by the shops queried.”

Friday November 14th, the Saint Michael’s College ski and snowboard club, also known as SHREDmc, hosted the 7th annual JIBFEST a day before it was scheduled to be held due to rain. The club members and much of the school came together and set the entire set up scaffold and all up in under 10 hours.
Jibfest is a large scale annual event at Saint Michaels College and this year wasn’t anything to laugh at. We at SHREDmc decided to kick it up a notch and have not only 1 18ft scaffold drop in but 2 and increase the amount of hits each rider had and the amount of skiing and riding the spectators were able to see. The set up itself was the best its been in years past, including a 15 foot flat rail to approx. 5 foot drop, flat down box and the option of a wall ride and if you had enough speed after the first feature a flat rail was set up on the ground. The 300-400 spectators were not let down. Through out the course of the night they were able to see 270 disasters, back flips, front flip…attempts, 270s on and off even a few 630’s out. Along with the level of riding being higher than it has been in years past the amount of participation from the crowd was better than ever, with dance off’s and even a Redbull being chugged out of a shoe, simply for a hat or T-shirt.

The winners of the competition however were done differently than years past and other competitions. Instead of doing a first, second and third place winner we simply went with the top skier and rider. Sophomore Kevin McClory won for the skiers with his 270’s on and 450’s out and amazing style all night long, for that he won a season’s pass to Jay Peak. For the snowboarders, also winning a season pass to Jay Peak, Nick Briggs with his innovational style on the wall ride set up. As for the rest of the riders the officers of SHREDmc came up with a new award, a way to acknowledge what JIBFEST is all about, the love of the sport and fun. At Jibfest 2008 the first annual SHRED Michael’s College award was given out and the winners did not leave empty handed.

First up was the snowboarders and thanks to our friends over at East Coast Snowboarding the winner, Junior Andrew Lanoue walked away with a brand new Bataleon snowboard, all night Andrew was throwing down insane back flips and front flip attempts. As for the skiers, Freshman Christian Kishida took home a box full of goodies ranging from, EESA shirts, Joystick poles, an Empire T-shirt and bandanas and an IMAG3 hoodie. Although we did not have a separate category for women, we did not forget about one girl who truly stood out, since she was only 1 of 2, Sophomore Colleen Moore walked away with some shawg from EESA Lux layering.

The Jibfest was overall an amazing event and one that will not be forgotten. The club members came together and made such a large event that usually takes two full days to build into 10 hours. We at SHREDmc would like to thanks our sponsors: JAY PEAK, EESA Lux Layering, BRANDNEW Clothing, East Coast Snowboarding Magazine and EC Headwear.

Last Friday eesa celebrated the launch of their R.A.D series in Repentigny, QC. Seb Carobene, eesa’s Quebec Sales rep, played host to the party at his club Saint Maurice- when Seb isn’t selling socks, he’s selling shnapps.
The R.A.D series features art from Riders, Artists and Designers on one of eesa’s signature 100% bamboo tees. The R.A.D series gives eesa an opportunity to collaborate with Riders, Artists and Designers outside their regular season collections. “We’re stoked to roll out R.A.D. and get involved with brands we respect such as Ifound, our team and all the sick designers out there who are looking to get their voice heard. This really gives us an opportunity to give the whole co-lab craze our eesa twist. Per the usual, we took a look at what everyone else was doing and gave it the appropriate tweakage”

Eesa’s product management team spent the summer months working with applicants to fine tune their submissions, then spent the early fall months filtering the applicant pool to the finalists. One of the many motivators in developing the R.A.D series was to expand eesa’s creative opportunities outside of their regular season collections. Designing year-in and year-out for fall delivery is exciting for sure, but it can also be very pigeon-holing. Designs for regular season production are highly scrutinized and are subjected to round table after round table with team, reps, in-house, brothers/sisters, moms/dads, etc. The end result it a spectrum of approachable designs that range from easy-to-steezy. The R.A.D series on the other hand is a direct collaboration producing unfiltered pieces straight from the artists’ pen to eesa’s sewing tables.

Mathieu, JP, Guillaume, Ezekiel
eesa celebrated their R.A.D series last week with artist Mathieu Laroche, the first featured artist of the series. Mathieu is well-known for his unmistakable cartoon style drawings fueling the art direction of ifound, one of the most innovative headwear companies decorating the industry’s landscape for the last 4 years.
Mathieu works in a mix media mentality using almost anything at his disposal-pencils, spray paint, collages, nontraditional canvas, you name it. His art transcends traditional one-dimensionality and is applied in a multitude of arenas including artshows, painting, directing the art section of ifound or simple doodling that is in fact nothing but simple. Matt renders his work in all directions, starting from the pencil or computer and vice-versa. “I try to be the more polyvalent in my works, I don’t want to restrain myself to a unique medium. All work methods have their own finish styles and tell the same message a different way,” says the Mathieu Laroche, himself and in the flesh.

Eesa and ifound not only share amazing team riders such as Annie Boulanger and Yan Dofin, they share similar philosophies in working hard and starting from scratch. Both companies are founded and run by snowboard entrepreneurs with boot strap mentalities and signature designs and product. Co-founder and owner Guillaume Brochu said that “when I first met Stephen and then the whole eesa crew in Repentigny, there is no wonder why this company is so rad: it first start with rad people! Doing a collaboration with them was a very simple act as we share the same philosophies. We all do it for the love of snowboarding and the desire to maintain a precious lifestyle. We can’t wait to see the special ifound/eesa socks and the eesa/ifound beanie.”
The celebration started and ended as it should, with high fives and hugs.
